The Rigger Level 1 Training Course willprepare students, who currently work in, or are about to work in, riggingoperations. The class will cover topics such as common sling hitch types,load charts and how to perform a pre-use inspection. The Rigger Course is aimedat providing individuals with the knowledge and skills to prepare and tie theload for safe lifting by any form of lifting equipment. It is a mandatorycourse for individuals who are assigned to carry out preparation of the load forlifting operation involving a mobile crane or tower crane. 2.2 Factories(Operation of Cranes) Regulations stipulates that: “No person shall rig uploads for any lifting operations by a mobile crane or tower crane unless he isa rigger appointed by an occupier” “No person shall be appointed as riggerunless he has successfully completed a training course approved by the ChiefInspector” (Commissioner of Workplace Safety and Health) “A rigger who isappointed….shall be attired in such a way as would distinctively identify himas a rigger” The Rigger course is mandatory training for liftingoperation course suitable for individuals who are assigned to undertake therole of a Rigger in the construction and other industries. 1.1 LegalRequirement Factories (Operation of cranes) Regulations Reg 18 - An occupiershall appoint a rigger for the purpose of rig up load for any liftingoperation. To be appointed as a rigger, he shall successfully completed acourse approved by the commissioner of WSH 2 Course Objective At the end of thecourse, trainees should be able to: - List the duties of the Rigger in liftingoperation - Comply with safe work procedure for lifting - Participate intoolbox meeting - Estimate load and determine Centre of Gravity - Conduct pre-liftinspection of lifting gear and accessories - Practise good housekeeping oflifting gear and accessories - Select the appropriate rigging equipment - Rigand direct load to destination with safe lifting - Check and verify load isproperly rigged - Describe legislative requirement for safe lifting operation -List the duties and responsibilities of signalman for lifting operation - Listthe personnel involved in lifting operation - Identify hazards related tolifting operation - Apply 3-steps lifting and lowering method - Apply correctslinging method to ensure safe lifting operation - Set up communication forsafe lifting operation - Explain the use correct lifting tackle - Communicateusing standard verbal and hand signal - Response to accident and emergencies.
